>Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England travel labels (2004)

The 2004 Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England had as its central theme the variety of ethnic foods available in the region. The editors titled it “Around the World in New England”, and I created these travel labels to accompany the mention of each exotic restaurant. This made the spreads a bit more interesting, and we did not have to include the photos of good but unnatractive restaurants.

This poster is part of a series of seasonal guides Yankee Magazine distributed during 2004 and 2005. All fronts were illustrated by Erick Ingraham, while the backs were put together with stock photo and illustrations I made. The first photo displays the poster the way it looked when folded and attached to the magazine on the newsstand.

In 2003, Yankee Magazine ran a story on ladybugs (Harmonia axyridis), which are very common in New England. The article opener had about a hundred of them, repeated from this illustration at different angles, so it was important that they look convincing. Stray bugs were randomly placed throughout the magazine.

I made this illustration for a story Yankee Magazine ran about wells in New England drying up. During my time there, the magazine saved several thousand dollars in illustration; and because I have so many distinct styles, the look was fresh each time I chose to illustrate a piece.
